Schoolboy stars take centrestage in Delta

 

 

 

 

 

Schoolboy stars will converge on the Warri City Stadium as the finals of the inaugural Secondary Schools Soccer tournament for the Governor’s Cup in Delta State is decided on Tuesday.    

   

No fewer than 500 secondary schools competed in the Governor’s Cup with zonal elimination matches across eight centres in the state.

Matches were played in Asaba, Agbor, Kwale, Oghara, Sapele, Okpara, Ughelli and Warri.

Tuesday’s final, which is live on SuperSport presents a golden opportunity for students of Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogwashi-Uku and Alegbo secondary school Effurun, to make history.

To reach the finals, Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogwashi-Uku defeated Edjekota Secondary, Ughelli, while Alegbo Secondary School, Effurun eliminated Don Domingoes College, Warri 

Conceived by sports loving Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the initiative is designed to revive secondary school football in the state.

Interestingly, the competition kicked off on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, with an impressive opening ceremony that featured Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogwashi-Uku, which is one of the schools in the finals.

A lot is at stake for these youngsters who are on the verge of making history. 

Edjekota Secondary, Ughelli, which lost one of the semi-finals to Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogwashi-Uku has since emerge as winner of the third-place classification match after a 5-2 victory over Don Domingoes College, Warri.

 supersport.com learnt that talents discovered across the state will form the Delta State Academicals team.

Impressive youngsters like Joseph Isiekwene, Anene Ugo and midfielder, Felix Oseme amongst others have worked their way to the State Academicals due to their performance so far.
