Super Eagles gaffer, Stephen Keshi, has applauded former
Nigerian coach, Clemens Westerhof, for influencing his coaching career.
The duo developed a strong relationship and Keshi received
advice and guidance from the Dutch.
Keshi equally appreciated Westerhof’s unique style of
motivating players ahead of matches.
Keshi captained the Eagles to achieve success at the Tunisia’
94 Afcon and Nigeria’s first World Cup appearance at USA ‘94 under Westerhof’s
tutelage.
Since his appointment on the eve of the 2012
Gabon/Equatorial Guinea Afcon, Keshi has deployed similar template adopted by Westerhof
in managing the national team.
The event was also used to launch the “Tom Tom Go To Brazil”
national consumer promo.
Keshi, who captained the national team during the glorious era
of Westerhof made the revelation during the Tom-Tom Editors’ Round Table
sponsored by Tom-Tom, the Official Candy of Nigeria’s National Teams, in Lagos,
on Tuesday.
“After the USA ’94 World Cup, Westerhof told me I’ll become
a coach. He is more than a coach to me, Westerhof is a mentor,” Keshi said
while answering a question at the event.
“Westerhof can talk you to play like Pele with positive
words and he’s a disciplinarian. Without discipline, you can’t fit into a
team,” the former Nigerian captain said in Lagos,
