Keshi commits marketing sin: Nike vs adidas

Keshi ignites brand war with Nike Cap & adidas track suit

Super Eagles manager, Stephen Keshi, unknowingly displayed his limited knowledge of how to protect the rights of a sponsor of a property (adidas/Super Eagles) when he appeared in a Nike Face Cap and the team’s traditional adidas track suit at their Faro Camp, in Portugal.

You’d think any endorser would know exactly what they had to do to keep their sponsor happy, but not the Nigeria Football Federation.

The Marketing Department of the NFF clearly showcased their inadequacies when Keshi committed the cardinal “marketing sin.”

Investigation conducted by Nigeria’s leading network and resource for brands in the business of sports, ojeksaikhoje.blogspot.com reveal that the former Anderlecht defender has no personal endorsement deal with Nike and so had no reason to use the product of rival brand.

Perhaps Keshi was trying to remember the good old days when the Eagles made an impact with Nike as sportswear provider for the team.

ojeksaikhoje.blogspot.com reports that partners of the NFF have continuously struggled to ensure their rights are protected.

Before the USA'94 World Cup, adidas was kit supplier to the Super Eagles, but lost out to the American firm after the Eagles won the Nations Cup at Tunisia'94.

The US-based sportswear manufacturer later decided not to renew their sponsorship of the Super Eagles after a nine-year association with the team.

  1. I totally agree with what you said. I appeal to adidas to try and make better jersies for the Eagles. I also hope the federation gets to read this and some of the other brilliant articles you have written especially the one on the Logo for the league.
